Summer's recollections...
The party woke from their lodgings in Daggerford, where they've been invited to a dinner at the Duchesses home that night as representatives of the Stoker family.
Having the day to themselves, they decided to head back to the Carnival they visted the night before.
While exploring a pub for lunch: Francesco spots some members of the Dutchesses guard, along with their captain, talking with one of the carnival folk.
The High Elf decided to wander over and see what was going on, the carny telling him everything was fine as the three guardsmen appeared to be talking gibberish to each other.
Unable to find anything else from the group, Fran rejoins the party for lunch only to find his own missing.
After some more exploration of the carnival grounds, Fran, Summer and Tariel decide to take part in a pie eating contest.
Each contestant needed to eat three large pies of three flavours, first to eat all three is declared the winner.
Fran and Tariel were off to an amazing start while Summer was regretting eating Francescos lunch... but the small Kobold pushed through, able to outeat Francesco but unable to catch up to Tariel who smashed down her pies with ease!
Tariel received a little 'champion' badge and a wooden box as her prize, while Francesco and Summer were given small collapsable dolls for competing.
Heading to a Goblin tossing contest, Slate stepped up to the plate and managed to get a near perfect score!
Nobody else was able to get close, winning the Rogue a large stuffed plushie he gave to Summer. Who immediately tore it open and gutted the stuffing of the plushie to fashion herself a cloak.
As the party heads back to their lodgings, Tariel opened her prize box to find a small copper ring and a ticket for a free fortune teller reading.
After the party were prepared for the dinner, they made their way to the mansion near the top of the town.
As they entered the lavish home, they could hear a woman screaming at someone. She demanded that the guards, the ones the party presumed were the ones they saw at the tavern, to be punished.
According to one of the guards that Francesco knew, the Dutchess wanted her guards to send the circus packing as they refused to pay any fees for their showgrounds. The Carnival group, the party now know as the 'Vistani', may have done something to the guards for as the group they sent don't recall what happened at the showgrounds.
Joined at the dinner table are three other guests: a Priestess, a Priest and another Deciple.
Torbin and Francesco spoke with the members of the Sun God worship, learning that the other guests had probably stayed away due to the Dutchesses temper...
The group talk about wolf attacks happening in the forest nearby the town, being worried about the increasing frequency.
As they talked, a butler entered the room and announced that the Dutchess wished to speak to Abe alone in her study.
Not wanting to go, Abe insists on Tariel going in his stead.
As Tariel starts to follow the butler, Slate slips behind her while Francesco jumps to the empty band stage and begins playing a song for the dinner guests.
The Dutchess discusses with Tariel that she wants the party to help remove the Vistani, offering to pay them for their efforts.
Tariel offered the parties services for 300 gold, but was haggled down to 150 Gold. Her plan the entire time.
After rejoining the party, they decide to go investigate the Vistani once again.
Heading to the circus, they find most of the carnies are having a bonfire.
Slate, Abe, Torbin and Francesco slip into the camp to investigate further while Summer and Tariel watched the group by the bonfire.
Sneaking into one of the caravans, Slate finds sleeping children and decides against doing anything to harm them.
They explore a little further but decide it's not worth the trouble and meet back up with Tariel and Summer.
The group decide to see if Tariel could use her free fortune reading ticket to get them in.
Approaching the Vistani, they're invited in with welcoming arms.Torbin and Summer join Tariel for the card reading, the fortune teller known as Madame Ella flips five cards:
- The Charlatan
- The Anarchist
- The Druid
- The Shepard
- The Healer
Agreeing to help, the party agrees to join the Vistani for the travel to Barovia.
During the bonfire, the leader of this small group of Vistani "Stanimir", who the party saw with the townnguards earlier, tells a story of a man who succumbed to his own power that he began to rule his kingdom with evil methods...
When questioned Stanimir says "Our leader, the great Madam Eva, knows all. You must return with us to Barovia to speak with her?"
Agreeing to meet at first light, the party calls it a night. For the next morning, they hit the road for Barovia.
